The "Quiet Season"? Not Quite. A New Year’s Gift to Your Lawn
A holiday gift for your springtime lawn

The holiday decorations are up, the guest rooms are full, and lawn needs are taking a winters nap. To most people, this is the "off-season" for landscaping and lawncare, but if you ask any pro, they’ll tell you that spring lawns are won in the winter.
As we wrap up the year and look toward 2026, I wanted to share a few "insider" tips on how to use this holiday downtime to ensure your yard is the envy of the neighborhood come springtime.
1. Don’t Walk the Line (The Frozen One)
It’s tempting to take a shortcut across the lawn when carrying out the trash or checking the mail. However, when your grass is dormant or frosted, the blades become brittle. Walking on them can actually fracture the plant’s crown.
Pro Tip: If you see brown footprints in your lawn this spring that just won’t turn green, it’s likely from foot traffic during these weeks. Stick to the walkways!
2. The "Salt Factor"
We all want safe, ice-free sidewalks for our holiday guests. But be careful with standard rock salt (sodium chloride). It leaches moisture from the soil and can "burn" the roots of your grass and boxwoods.
The Fix: Switch to Calcium Magnesium Acetate (CMA). It’s safer for your pets’ paws and much kinder to your expensive landscaping.
3. Reflection & Resolution
Now is actually the best time to "see" your yard. Without the lush green leaves of summer, the "bones" of your property are exposed. Take a walk with a cup of coffee and ask yourself:
- Are there massive gaps that look empty in the winter?
- Did that one patch of grass struggle all summer?
- Do I actually want to spend my Saturdays weeding, or is it time for a professional mulch refresh?

At Next Level, we don’t just work in the yard; we work in the business of curb appeal and peace of mind. While you’re enjoying the last of the holiday leftovers, we’re already busy sharpening blades and building out our 2026 schedules.
Our spring calendar is already starting to fill up. If you’re dreaming of a new landscape/hardscape project, a total lawn renovation, or just want to be first on the list for our "Spring Clean-Up" service, let’s chat before the New Year’s clock strikes twelve.
